Alforja had been a walled enclosure, some of which remains in the porch on the south side. Located in the center of the valley, above a small hill 347 m above sea level, it is assumed that the village developed from a Muslim house further developed by the French. Repopulated and cited in 1154, it was fortified with walls and a large castle.
All the centre of downtown, the environment of the Square Mercadal, has retained the aroma medieval buildings in splendid detail, as the porch of the square, the site mentioned and remainings of the castle.
The manor houses as Cal Batllet, Cal Botó or Cal Fernando confirm the economic power of the village in the past and what was the barony of Alforja.
